BCB's Cyperus rotundus, commonly known as nutgrass or purple nutsedge, has shown promising anti-cancer properties in various studies. The rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, and essential oils, which contribute to its medicinal effects.

Research indicates that Cyperus rotundus has several pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor effects. These properties are primarily attributed to compounds like α-cyperone, cyperotundone, which have shown the ability to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in tumor cells.

Breast Cancer: Studies indicate that extracts from Cyperus rotundus can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and preventing cell proliferation. The ethanol extract, in particular, has been found to be effective against triple-negative breast cancer cells.

Leukemia: Cyperus rotundus extracts have shown cytotoxic effects on leukemia cells, suggesting their potential as an adjunct therapy in leukemia treatment. The bioactive compounds work by disrupting the cancer cells' metabolic pathways, leading to cell death.

Cervical Cancer: Research on the effects of Cyperus rotundus ethanol extracts on cervical cancer cells has revealed mechanisms involving the inhibition of cell growth and induction of apoptosis. This makes it a promising candidate for further exploration in cervical cancer therapies.
